[ it's guarded by his standards, which are! low. ]
I do.
[ These sort of... games built on deceit and secrecy are really not for him at all. ]
I believe it's important to find the goodness in people—to search for it and trust in it. If I had believed in Guy today, then perhaps I would have fought harder for his innocence. Noticed something that I did not before. However...
[ His words, determined as they are, falter for a moment. ]
In our last experience, I failed to see the truth because it was hidden in someone I considered a friend. Someone I believed in so strongly that I could not see that they were misleading me the entire time. So it has been... a difficult balance.
[ . . . and perhaps because they are two too honest people, in a situation that does not benefit honest people:]
... Giyuu told me some of it. [a beat] ... and he cares for you greatly, even if he can't manage to tell you himself.
[but she frowns, when she considers the big picture of it]
I think... we all collectively made a mistake, for the second week in a row. But I don't want you to think... that any fault that you might've had in this is - because you didn't trust enough. I don't think that being human is any kind of flaw.
He's a fool. I killed him and Kocho both—neither of them seems to mention that when they recount the island's events.
[ Rather than a scolding, it feels and sounds like a confession in a place like this, somber and dark. ]
He's trusted me enough to tell me... too much, and I've told him as much. Still, his actions make me think—if we cannot be honest with one another, how can we expect to win against this place? We failed as a group, but I must assess my own part in it all.
[ He takes in a deep breath, holding it for a moment before setting it free in a quiet exhale. ]
To that end—I want to tell you more about my power, whatever 'items' I've received, and whatnot... Anything that may help you. I do not expect the same in return, but I want to offer you that much.
.... no, he mentioned that - when I asked. I know what you did.
[she says it evenly, without judgment - because it's not that she didn't understand. in places like this, sometimes it requires decisive action. and dimitri killing giyuu, being the one to truly end everything... she doesn't see it at something horrible.
though at his mention of honesty, she pauses for a long moment - and then answers herself:]
Draw the Line allows me to create one perfect illusion, once per week. But I can only use it on one person. I haven't used it yet, because I think... in my condition, taking someone off-guard would be the only one way I could survive in self-defense. I would want the death to be quick and painless.
You know of the doll that I received, and we used the medical device today. From our adventure, we also gained one medicinal serum that can heal one injury of medium severity. I have it. Yin Yu is holding onto a book where if you write down someone's name, they'll tell you where they are.
Otherwise, I have only normal items and information. Dick broke into Purple Heart's cabin with Sanji and Yasusada on Wednesday - they found a journal that Purple Heart was keeping. The directors arrived to this place by bus, and there is a theory that they were also participants in our last settings, but I don't think we can talk about it publicly. It might also be something that leads to consequences and secrets. If you want to know more, you ought to talk to Purple Heart directly. In addition, the people from our past settings are probably somewhere here, asleep, but we can't get to them. We were asleep too, before we came here.
Akira, Chuuya, and Dazai broke into the arts and crafts cabin - and I believe we can start communicating with our dead once a week via the small box inside. They found three empty crayon boxes and the crayons missing were Black Shadows, Purple Heart, and Winter Wizard. They also received one item that can fake handwriting and one item that can 'cut through anything, even the unseen'.
Someone confided in me that they are part of Black Shadows today - and there have been at least four different prizes that can be earned from being part of that team. The stickers, the erasing footprints - but also something that can nullify a curse for fifteen minutes, and something that can induce a nightmare in someone.
[ . . . . . . ]
I don't want you to think that you shouldn't expect my honesty.
You're my friend, and my ally. If you want anything from me, just ask.
[ He looks... surprised. No one seemed to hold any ill will towards him after what he did—and it doesn't make any sense. But his own guilt is something he'll deal with later, nodding instead. ]
That's quite a lot of substantive discovery... Good work, Lili.
[ He absorbs what she says, and does his best to share what he knows too. ]
The Eyes Have It. I can only use it once a week, with its effects wearing off by that next Monday. By watching someone do something, I can replicate it. It is not an ability I use on someone else, so much as one to teach myself. But I have been... hesitant to reveal its capabilities, as I think it would complicate things during our trials.
[ And this part she may already know, but it doesn't hurt to cross-reference: ]
I believe I have the same items as you, more or less—Giyuu kept the laptop we discovered in our cabin, and Shinobu took the syringe we found. It contains... a clear poison. Otherwise, we discovered a room with those odd sketches I showed you, as well as surveillance equipment. [ ... ] It was, um... a number of security cameras and monitors, if you know what those are. Whoever had access to that cabin could see anyone enter or exit their cabins, including the directors' cabins. There was some sort of... list on the laptop, but we were not able to see it before the room caught on fire. I believe that the fire started when we tried to remove the laptop, though I suppose that means it can't be used to spy on us anymore.
Otherwise... [ and this takes him a moment, moreso than anything else he's reported on. ] I... I thought I saw something pass by us in the mirror. Probably just a trick of the mind—Purple Heart told me that whatever I found there was likely just residuals meant to disturb my mind. But in case it is relevant, whoever I saw was—smaller than Giyuu.
[ that's all he thinks he spotted, anyway. there's a 99% chance it's a red herring anyway, whatever. ]
Purple Heart they didn't seem to have any trouble looking at that strange drawing I showed you, and they told me that the surveillance equipment wasn't there when they looked through the cabins. When I asked, they said that they hadn't build the cabins themselves, but were rather just caretakers, and that there shouldn't be any more cabins capable of watching us like that one.
As for the other teams... I do not think that we can use the items we receive to distinguish someone between the two losing teams. You already discovered that it was the Black Shadows team that has won both weeks, right? I know what one of their items looks like, but that's it.
If I had to guess—it seems likely to me that someone hid their footprints this week to kill Hikage. But that scarcely narrows it down, considering how little I know about that team's makeup.
Do you know what the function of that Black Shadows item is? I want to know... the amount of variety that exists within that team and their prizes. If every single person received a different prize over the past two weeks, there's a lot that we're going to be struggling to find.
[but otherwise she seems to nod, and listen.]
I'll ask you the same I've asked of Flayn - I don't expect anyone to reveal any member of Black Shadows to me, but I need to know what they've received, so we don't have this situation again where we are so entirely left in the dark that we can't make heads from tails.
We need to develop a strategy on how to find people in the future - see if there's anything damning on a person, and then verify their team if need be to see what tools they could've had at their disposal.
[ . . . . but she sighs after that, bumping into him with a brief nudge as she sits by him.]
I'll keep you informed of any more plans or ideas that I have in the coming week, but for now... that's all I have. I... Whatever help I'm offered, I have to take it, because we need to save as many people as we can - and I won't accept it if anyone is left behind.
But... don't forget that I want to help you, too. If there's anything you need or want.
